Founded by Edith and Alan Webster. The Websters were residents of New Westminster and keen tennis players. They founded the current New Westminster Tennis Club in 1934. They frequently spent their summers in White Rock and formed WRTC in 1968.
As president of WRTC in 1977, Alan coordinated a contract with the City of White Rock whereby WRTC would have exclusive use of the courts for its members. Until that agreement, the club had shared the courts with public players.
Over their lifetimes the Websters made many significant contributions to the sport and were named Mr. & Mrs. Tennis BC in1974.
Edith created and coached a junior program at the 2 club/public courts which is now WRTC. Starting in 1962 with 25 juniors, she built the program up to over 120 juniors by 1973 when she retired from coaching.
